How Do You Become an Athletic Trainer?

    Athletic trainers must obtain, at minimum, a bachelor's degree in athletic training from an accredited program.  

    Typical classes include formal instruction on:

    • Injury/illness prevention
    • Frst aid and emergency care
    • Assessment of injury/illness
    • Human anatomy and physiology
    • Therapeutic modalities
    • Biomechanics
    • Kinesiology
    • Sports psychology
    • Nutrition

    Students must also pass a national comprehensive exam to become a certified athletic trainer.  Athletic trainers are licensed or otherwise regulated in 49 states and the District of Columbia.
