Barber, Guyton, & Maurer Named to Lady Bronco Soccer Hall of Fame

Graduated seniors Megan Barber (left) and Mia Guyton (right) were named to the UGHS Lady Bronco soccer HOF along with Kayla Maurer (not pictured).
After the double heartbreak of the 2020 spring girls soccer season being cancelled due to Covid, followed by the cancellation of a shortened summer season in July (also thanks to Covid), three UG seniors were named the Lady Broncos Hall of Fame this summer. Megan Barber, Mia Guyton, and Kayla Maurer earned nods from the class of 2020 thanks to incredible soccer careers. All three girls were varsity starters for the duration of their careers, helping the Broncos to win their first-ever WIAA Regional Title in 2018 along with back-to-back Southern Lakes Conference championships in 2018 & 2019 before their threepeat expectations were thwarted by Covid in 2020. Megan will go on to play at UW-Oshkosh, Mia will play at UW-Parkside this fall, and Kayla will continue her career at Cedarville University in Ohio. "I love each one of these kids like my own daughters, so devastating to lose our last year together but I will forever feel blessed to have had the 3 years together that we did... what special young ladies" commented Coach Jung about the new alumni. The future of UG soccer is wide open now, with 7 seniors graduating and the program in flux, the Broncos will look to a bulk of returning seniors in 2021 to continue the legacy. See Coach Jung with questions, we hope to start on Monday, April 26th this spring! Thanks to everyone, stay safe and Go Broncos!

By now we all know what happened to spring sports in 2020, as Covid forced nationwide cancellations, lockdowns, and quarantines. An expected three-peat in the Southern Lakes Conference fell by the way side, and the Broncos had to watch perhaps their best class in school history graduate without stepping on the pitch for their senior seasons. Megan Barber, Peyton Killberg, Mia Guyton, Abby Lentz, Kayla Maurer, Kendra Hoffman, and Kelsey Kemper all moved on without playing their final season, and the Broncos now have massive shoes to fill. "Graduating 7 seniors is always going to challenge a program's depth, but those girls were all so special in their own way. We have great youth who will look to fill their shoes, but they will certainly be big shoes to fill" summarized Coach Jung this summer. With no guarantee of a 2021 season either, the Broncos will hope to rebound with some key returning players; senior Adrianna Rodriguez will head the group, along with junior Paige Cotton. Senior Marissa Polzin should be healthy for her final season, while junior Sam Fleischman is expected to take the reigns in the Bronco defense. Aside from this, there will be a handful of newcomers that will need to step up to keep UG on top in the SLC. We'll have to wait and see what the 2020-'21 school year holds, but for now stay safe everyone, and Go Broncos!  2020 the Lost Season... Where Do the Broncos Go From Here?
