Union Grove Union High School has been named a 2024–25 Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished School, a national recognition that celebrates outstanding commitment to student achievement and engagement in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education.
Union Grove is one of just a select number of high schools across the country to receive this honor, which highlights the strength and impact of its PLTW Biomedical Science program. Project Lead The Way is a nonprofit organization that empowers students to develop in-demand skills and knowledge through real-world, hands-on classroom experiences designed to prepare them for success in college and careers.
To earn the PLTW Distinguished School designation, Union Grove High School met several criteria during the 2023–24 school year. These included offering multiple PLTW courses, maintaining strong student enrollment in the program, and encouraging students to take more than one PLTW course during their high school experience.
PLTW President and CEO Dr. David Dimmett praised the school for its commitment: “We are proud to honor Union Grove Union High School for their dedication to providing students with exceptional educational experiences through PLTW programs. This achievement reflects their ongoing focus on empowering students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in school and beyond.”
The PLTW Biomedical Science program is one of several pathways offered at Union Grove to help students prepare for a variety of post-secondary options. These programs integrate core STEM concepts with critical soft skills like teamwork, communication, and adaptability—qualities that are essential in today’s ever-evolving workforce.
Union Grove Union High School is proud to be part of a national network of schools, higher education institutions, and industry partners that share a mission to provide engaging, high-quality learning opportunities for students at all levels. The PLTW courses at UGHS are taught by Mrs. Kim Sandberg and Ms. Aleid van der Zel.
