Members of the Union Grove High School National Honor Society (NHS) have successfully concluded their annual charitable initiative, raising significant funds for a cause close to home: Wreaths Across America.
Each year, NHS members select a local charitable organization or cause to support. This year, the focus was placed on an organization related to veterans, and members overwhelmingly voted to support Wreaths Across America.
Exceptional Fundraising Achievement
NHS members actively engaged with the community, sharing information about the mission of Wreaths Across America and collecting donations. Their efforts culminated in a remarkable total of $12,325, enough to purchase 725 wreaths.
NHS President Michayla Damko shared what drew the group to Wreaths Across America:
“Wreaths Across America is such a special organization because they strive to remember veterans all year and remind the community to do the same. They remind us that, in the midst of our daily lives, we can't forget the sacrifices that have enabled us to live those lives.”
The donation was presented at the Veterans Day Assembly at Union Grove High School on November 7, 2025, with a number of local veterans in attendance. After the assembly, Vice President Jenna James reflected on the impact of the donation:
“The National Honor Society’s ability to donate such a large amount to Wreaths Across America and their mission today was such a beautiful opportunity. Although our donations will never be able to repay the veterans of Southeastern Wisconsin for their sacrifices, I hope the donation helped at least one veteran feel honored today. Thank you, veterans!”
Inspiring Future Community Involvement
NHS Advisor Andrew Del Ponte emphasized the broader goal of increasing community engagement with the local Wreaths Across America committee.
“We hope that having our members head out into the community to share information and seek donations will help raise awareness of the great work that our local Wreaths Across America committee is doing for the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery here in Union Grove. It was great to support them this year, but hopefully community members are inspired to join the committee and help with future organizing and fundraising!”
